Review – Sideshow 1/6 Holo Darth Sidious with Mechno Chair

30 09 2007

Here’s something you don’t get to see too often up close – the Sideshow 1/6 Holo Darth Sidious with Mechno Chair! It’s really a Star Wars furniture imagined in the same vein as the droids, holo projectors and Dejarik chess game made hugely popular in the Original Trilogy. And it’s Nute Gunray’s version of what R2D2 is to Luke only it looks more lavish and the holo ‘screen’ is bigger. Some things don’t change even in the realm of sci-fi huh.

Incoming – Medicom 12″ Boba Fett

26 09 2007

Here’s an incoming that I had been awaiting eagerly for. It’s Medicom’s 12″ Boba Fett!!! And I found out how excited I was with this figure when I found myself humming John Williams’ galactic tune as I rode out of the mall with Boba in tow. And I did not notice it until I stopped at a red light. Then I thought to myself, “Did I hum when I collected the other Jedi?”. Well. the answer is… no. That’s how much I am look forward to Boba Fett.

24 09 2007

The ultimate 1/6 status symbol has arrived at SWFToys! And it is none other than Sideshow’s Holo Darth Sidious with Mechno Chair(quite a mouthful… henceforth know as HDSMC)! Why is it a status symbol? Well, it is at least in the world of Star Wars as it was often the show-off furniture of the wealthy Neimoidians.

Review – Sideshow 12″ Princess Leia as Boushh

22 09 2007

I’ve hunted for a Leia in Boushh disguise 12″ figure even before Sideshow landed the Star Wars 12″ license. Hasbro’s Leia Boushh was my target and it came in a pack of three with Luke and Han. But despite my numerous bids on eBay, I was not successful. Most of the sellers were from the U.S and the U.S buyers usually outbid me easily as I had to factor in shipping charges. Nothing wrong with that. It’s just that I was unable to pose the Boushh armour next to my Hasbro Carbonite Han. With the release of Sideshow’s Leia in Boushh disguise figure, not getting the Hasbro version does not seem so bad now.

Showcase – Sideshow Marvel Legendary Scale Iron Man Bust

20 09 2007

Weighing a hefty 6 kilograms, Sideshow Marvel’s Legendary Scale Iron Man bust was a real challenge to cart home on a motorcycle singlehandedly. Fortunately, I’ve had some experience pillioning big boxes (like Jabba the Hutt) and it helped in this case. Honestly, I did not know how big was this bust when I put down a deposit for its pre-order. I just know it wasn’t 1:1 scale! If it was this big, I would really had a problem on my hands.

Comics – Transformers: War Within Vol 2

Transformers: War Within Vol 2

Optimus Prime and Megatron had disappeared after an accident leaving the Autobots and Decepticons leaderless.

And expected, the two factions fragmented, each with their own leaders. It was quite confusing to me initially as I had not idea of the story’s setting. Prowl was heading the Autobots, Starscream led the Predacons(isn’t that the name of one of the Decepticon combiner groups?), the Decepticons came under Shockwave and Grimlock commandeered a group with a creative name – Lightning Strike Coalition. And Bludgeon headed another called Chaos Trinity. That’s a lot of group names to take in right at the start.

Showcase – Hot Toys Private Mark Drake Having a Stressful Break

16 09 2007

Here’s a look at a semi-naked Hot Toys Mark Drake. Imagine him taking off all his gear and taking a break in some dark and dank shithole always on the alert for the slightest noise that may mean a xenomorph ambush.
