Review – Medicom 12″ Black Spiderman 3 (Movie version)

30 06 2007

Medicom’s symbiote Spiderman swings by SWFToys just in time to make it as the last review of June 2007. No doubt riding on the hype of the Spiderman 3 movie, it is also the only figure I pre-ordered. Skipped the red Spidey and Venom because I wasn’t too convinced of the excellence of this Medicom’s line of products. The promo pics just did not give a ‘wow’ factor. I guess Spidey’s head just did not sit down well with me and I am more cautious of Medicom’s stuff these days. Read more about the head in this review.

Incoming – Sideshow Star Wars 12″ Plo Koon

29 06 2007

Wow… it’s been more than 6 months since the last Jedi Master from Sideshow was reviewed here at SWFToys. The numbers of the Jedi Council have been stagnant. But no fear, the latest member of the Council has arrived from missions on the Outer Rim! *Drum roll* He is none other than Jedi Master Plo Koon! Now, Plo Koon is a rather special figure for me because he was in my sight since the Hasbro days.

Travel – Heading to Taipei in 2 Weeks

27 06 2007

My latest travel plans see me heading to Taipei with Mrs SWFToys and her cousin in…. about 2 weeks. I’ve done some scouring on the web for places to shop for 1/6 figures and Taipei is not looking anywhere as exciting (in this aspect) as compared to Hong Kong or Japan. You know it does not look good when you Google ‘taipei 1/6 figure shop’ and information regarding semi-conductor wafers occupy the first 10 links!

So, coming up with a guide for toys seem an uphill challenge. And the first place I looked at was the excellent OneSixthWarrior forum and the following link summarises the many inputs of OSW forumers:

Showcase – Hot Toys T-800 Terminator Endoskeleton on Night Ops

25 06 2007

With those fantastic lighted eyes on Hot Toys’ T-800 Endoskeleton, I could not resist not shooting a separate series of darker pics to accentuate them! Just imagine looking at the Endoskeleton in the misty dark battlefields with those Hunter Killers hovering around. Imagine cyborg feetenjoy crushing human skulls and the occasional flash of weapon fire!

A couple more pics. Enjoy!

Review – Hot Toys 12″ T-800 Terminator Endoskeleton

23 06 2007

The Terminator series was certainly one of the most influential science fiction action movies ever. Hot Toys’ release of the the 12″ T-800 Endoskeleton pays tribute to the machine at the center of the time-travelling man-machine struggle of the Terminator story. Who could forget the face of this machine which rised from the flames in the finale of The Terminator? How it’s relentless pursuit of its target saw it terrifying Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor till the last amber filament of its eyes was extinguished forever.

Movies & DVDs – Sideshow Transformer Movie Review

21 06 2007

The Transformers movie is round the corner and I was fortunate enough to spy a review on Sideshow’s website. Be wary though, there are spoilers in it which they have stated right at the start of the review. However, if you have the same spoiler-avoiding reading skill as me (mine developed and trained from skipping 24 spoilers on the FOX website!), you’ll get to enjoy the delicious pics and the bottomline every Transformers fan will want to know before we hit the final lap to the movie’s opening!

Movies & DVDs – The Unit Season 1 DVD

19 06 2007

It’s another 5 months before I can lay my hands on the latest 24 DVD and in the meantime, I’ve tracked Dennis Haysbert to the CBS 2006 TV series – The Unit. Lasting 13 episodes in 4 DVDs, it illustrates the lives and… wives of the members of a covert government force known simply as The Unit. Although very highly trained, these men know that an operation gone awry could see them dead or if alive, will see their government deny their affiliation.
